After registration via telephone with the PBS during our hours of operation, you are given an appointment for the first interview in which you can explain your situation to us. We try to make sure you get an appointment within a few weeks, but due to the high demand for counseling, the waiting time can also take longer (e.g., before the exam period). Therefore, when you are in need of counseling, we kindly ask you to get in touch with us early on.
The first interview takes place directly in the office of the PBS (Bismarckstraße 10 | Mensaria am Schloss | Entrance C).
Issues can often be clarified by additional psychological questionnaires and the results are discussed in the second session, the psychological assessment. Based on the information from the first interview and the psychological assessment, you will either be offered additional counseling sessions at the PBS or we will help you to find alternative treatment that suits your needs best. The PBS team primarily works with methods of cognitive behavioral therapy and systemic therapy. Appointments typically take place on a weekly basis and last for 45-50 minutes. Typically, appointments are limited to a number of six to nine sessions (excluding the first 2 sessions), but with an option to schedule a few additional sessions in particular cases of need.
Finally, the success of the counseling process is assessed in a final session both verbally and by questionnaires. Additionally, students will be provided with suggestions on how to continue independently with the learned strategies and how to handle setbacks.
